ABC's at EKI

The Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club sent swimmer, Anna Dunphy, to the Edmonton Keyano International (EKI) swim meet this past weekend to test the waters of long course season. EKI is one of the top swim meets hosted in Alberta and swimmers from Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan competed for the coveted bear.

Chinook Invitational

This was our club’s first long course meet of the season (Long Course means the pool is 50m long). The meet was hosted by the Calgary Patriots, and was held at the Talisman Center. Here are the results from our 7 Waves swimmers.  Full results will be posted at the pool later this week.

No Sleepyheads at the Pajama Day Meet!

Waves swimmers Jordan deWever, Trinity Shilka, Carly Sivasankar, and Samantha Dunphy attended the Pajama Day JSC meet at the Foothills Pool in Calgary on Saturday, April 14. This was a fun, themed meet with swimmers wearing pajamas to the pool but there was nothing funny about our swimmers performance in their races. From start to finish, each Waves swimmer had fun in the water racing and on deck with their friends.

Big Swims, Fast Times at Dino Cup!

dino cup24 Waves swimmers traveled to Calgary this past weekend to compete at Dino Cup 2012.  Over 400 swimmers ages 10 & under attended this meet from all over Alberta. Dino Cup is traditionally the end of the short course racing season for the younger swimmers and as you can see from the picture is very well attended. The Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club was the 3rd largest team to attend behind the host club, University of Calgary Swim Club, and the other large Calgary club, Cascade Swim Club. Additional Photos and Videos are available of the meet.

Our 24 intrepid swimmers handled themselves fabulously given an overcrowded deck and lots of noise. For many of our swimmers, this was their very first swim meet. The Waves coaches are very proud of how well our swimmers handled themselves both in the pool and on deck.

Swimming from Redcliff to Bassano!

 Crestwood Pool

The pool was readied, lap counters (aka parents) in place, the swimmers eager and on March 13, 2012, the Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club held it's annual Swim-a-thon. The Swim-a-thon is the primary fundraising program for our club as is true for many swim clubs around the country. Waves swimmers were out in force and enthusiastic about the chance to set and meet goals in the pool.  Photos can be found here.

Mining for Gold at Age Group Provincials!

The Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club sent 3 swimmers to the 2012 Speedo Alberta Age Group Championships held March 9-11 at the Calgary Talisman Centre. Anna Dunphy, Jordan Mortlock and Ty Jans qualified for this meet with swims through the season and each found success in the pool.

Crazy Times at Crazy Hat!

This past weekend  was a very busy one for our swim club.  15 Waves swimmers traveled to Calgary on Saturday to compete at the UCSC Crazy Hat Jr. Circuit meet at Foothills Aquatic Center. Our 15 swimmers competed in a total of 55 swims, resulting in 34 top ten finishes & 29 new personal best times.  Great job Waves!!!  Photos and Videos are online.

Waves Swimmers Shine at Provincial Meet

The Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club was well represented this weekend at the 2012 Speedo Alberta Senior Championships swim meet.  Waves swimmers, Abby Mayer (age 15) and Anna Dunphy (age 13) attended the 3-day meet held at the Family Leisure Centre, January 27-29.  Both girls showed great Waves spirit with terrific swimming and the club is extremely proud of their performance!  A special thank you to Coach Betsy for coaching the girls this weekend.

Pugsley's Plunge -- the Results are in!

Great job swimmers! The results from Pugsley's Plunge are in and our kids swam well and put in a lot of new personal bests. The important thing to remember is not what position a swimmer finished in but whether it was a personal best time. Swimming is a team AND individual sport and the best is that the swimmer always competes against him/herself. All our swimmers here had best times and that is what makes the coach most proud --- to see that the hard work put in at the pool shows when at a competition.
