About the Waves
We are a year round competitive swim club training out of the Crestwood Recreation Centre in Medicine Hat, Alberta from September through June. We offer competitive, swim-fit, and developmental programs focusing on the whole swimmer, preparing them for a healthy future that includes fitness and recreation.
While our club has been in existance since 1990, the 2011-2012 season was a year of transformation. We invested in new coaches and advanced coaching certification for our coaches. We purchased and upgraded our swimmers training equipment, and added small tweaks to the program to make it more fun for our swimmers. This translated into numerous firsts such as finishing 4th for small clubs at both short course and long course Alberta Provincial Championships and numerous number one Canadian power rankings for some of our swimmers while maintaining the environment of being a fun and friendly place for our children.
For the 2012-2013 season we have added 4 new swim groups and increased our time in the pool for our most competitive groups. The new groups will drive costs lower while balancing the desire of our parents to group our swimmers by both skill level and physiological/chronological age to further increase our swimmers retention in the sport as they mature.
Our coaches are all accomplished swimmers and NCCP level 2 certified or the new NCCP fundamentals trained as required by Swimming Canada. Some of our coaches upgraded their education in the 2012 season as they work toward NCCP Age Group Coach or Competition certified status. We were the first swim club in Alberta to sponsor the new NCCP swimming 201 course necessary for Age Group Coach/Competition Introduction trained status and we are not finished yet.
While NCCP certification is required, the training does not make who the coach is and how he/she interacts with the swimmers. As dedicated teachers at various schools in Medicine Hat, our coaches "get" working with kids. They understand the advantages of small student to teacher ratio's and being flexible with both parents and their swimmer.
For advanced swimmers, we offer creative solutions for augmented training while keeping the fee structure the same. Whether your child is interested in fitness, making new friends, or swimming in competition - our program can meet those needs but most importantly, your swimmer will have fun along the way!
